About The Event
Join us for an evening of inspiration and community featuring some of Flagstaff's most beloved musicians.
Disappeared: Portraits of Absence, Songs of Resistance is an interdisciplinary exhibit highlighting the phenomena of forced disappearance, and the women-led movements for awareness and justice across the globe in response to these crimes. The exhibition features photography, poetry, music, and historical information about the contexts of these movements.
In addition we will host live music on the patio featuring well-known local Flagstaff musicians playing internationally recognized songs of resistance and protest, as well as original music dedicated to raising awareness and building community, including:
MattyZ
The Pocket Limes
Antara and Robbie
Bob Neustadt
LOON
Wild World Irish Fiddle
and more!
The event will be a powerful gathering that will highlight the ongoing fight for justice for those who have been forcibly disappeared and the movements that spearhead this fight. This event will offer a space for music and resistance, a chance to amplify the voices of those affected by this crisis, and to bring the community together in solidarity. Don't miss this meaningful and unforgettable evening.
The highlight of the exhibition is the photographic work of Daniel GM, which shines a light on the human cost of forced disappearances in Mexico, a crisis that disproportionately impacts women and marginalized communities. The powerful photographs feature members of the Collective Family of the Disappeared Orizaba-Cordoba and were curated by NAU students under the guidance of Dr. Pedro Gonzalez Corona and Dr. Björn Krondorfer of the Martin-Springer Institute.
Attendance is free. $10 donation suggested to support Culture Connection AZ's ongoing efforts to bring cultural opportunities to the Flagstaff community. Learn more about what we do here; www.cultureconnectionaz.org/about.
